The True Measure of Success

Uncategorized Dec 17, 2017
If you are not asking this one question, you are missing potential.

“A leader’s job is not to do the work of others, it’s to help others figure out how to do it themselves, to get things done, and to succeed beyond what they thought possible.”  - Simon Sinek

There are many ways to measure success, but I believe there’s one question that truly measures success. Many of us measure success by the accomplishment of goals, however, we often fail to consider one critical key aspect.

All too often your goals are inward-focused; they are all about your accomplishments, your career, and your achievements. These clearly measure a degree of success, yet they fall short of the true measure of success.

The true measure of success is asking yourself this one question; How have you have helped others? As you answer that question, here are a few additional things to consider:

  • How has your success directly benefited others?

  • Who have you mentored and developed from your success?

  • Who have you given your undivided attention & time to, helping reach their aspirations?

  • Who have you really taken the time to listen to without offering instant advice?

  • Who have you inspired to be their absolute best?

  • Who have you encouraged to help others?

As you set next year’s goals, I challenge you to consider looking outward; ask yourself how you can set goals that will help others be a better version of themselves. Focus inward only to uncover your strengths & gifts and how you can help others. As this year ends, measure your success over the past year on how much you helped others, and strive to ‘up your game’ in the coming year!

Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
